Caldera Launches New Tiling Module in PrimeCenter
August 07, 2024
Caldera has announced the release of PrimeCenter 3.2, the latest update to its prepress software. Designed to optimize the preparation of large-format jobs for digital printing and cutting, this version introduces many new features including a Tiling Module, new cutter drivers, and new input profiles tailored for packaging and pattern printing.
Introducing the Tiling Module
PrimeCenter 3.2 marks the arrival of a powerful Tiling Module, designed to facilitate how users prepare complex large-format projects. Signage companies producing interior graphics, wall coverings, window coverings, billboards, corridor wrapping or paneling for hotels, restaurants or offices will directly benefit from this new module.
The Tiling module provides a comprehensive experience for prepress operators, allowing them to import large-format files, scale them to the desired size, create basic and advanced grids, manage overlaps, add annotations and export tiles with a naming template of their choice.
Isabelle Muligo, Product Manager at Caldera, says: “Many of our customers handle a vast array of unique jobs with specific constraints. Our goal was to provide a module that would help them prepare complex large-formats jobs in a flexible and efficient manner, while saving significant time and addressing common challenges. This is just the start, as we are planning to add other exciting features in future updates.”
New features for packaging and pattern printing
PrimeCenter 3.2 also introduces new input profiles, enhancing the software’s compatibility with a broader range of applications.
The Add Clipping Path to Contours profile has been designed to save time and media when processing packaging files. Once enabled, the profile automatically adds a clipping path to specific selected contours, or to all the contours in the file. Using this profile significantly improves the nesting of packaging files with non-closed contours, helping users to save time and reduce media waste.
On the other hand, the Repeat Pattern profile allows users to effortlessly repeat any given pattern, simplifying job preparation for textile printing and home décor applications.
Expanded compatibility with diverse production environments
PrimeCenter 3.2 introduces new cut drivers to cater to more production environments. First introduced in PrimeCenter 3.0, cut drivers aim to ease the preparation of cut files compatible with industrial cutting solutions. Users can assign specific cut drivers to PrimeCenter based on the cutting devices that they own, which makes the software more adapted to the specific conditions of each production environment. While PrimeCenter does not operate the cut devices directly, the drivers make it easier to prepare cut files adapted to the user’s devices.
Three cut drivers were available so far: Generic PDF, Zünd Cut Center and Kongsberg PDF. PrimeCenter 3.2 expands the list by introducing the Generic HPGL and Generic DXF drivers. These additional drivers will benefit users working with cutting devices that only support HPGL, PLT and DXF file formats.
Isabelle Muligo adds: “To enable our customers to make the most of these new cut drivers, each PrimeCenter license now includes an additional generic cut driver. In total, up to three types of cut driver can be used in each license: 1 Brand Cut driver (ZCC or Kongsberg PDF), and 2 Generic Cut drivers (Generic PDF and/or Generic HPGL and/or Generic DXF). We are committed to develop more drivers in the future to expand PrimeCenter’s compatibility with even more production environments.”
