In digital printing, color management refers to the process of ensuring consistent and accurate color reproduction across different printers and substrates. Color management is essential because each device has its own color gamut (range of colors it can reproduce), and color space (representation of colors). Different devices may interpret and display colors differently, resulting in variations and inconsistencies in color reproduction.
Achieving a balance between nice gradients, vibrant colors and precise reproduction is a challenge requiring proper color management practices— including color measurement, profiling, regular device calibration and proofing processes.

Color spaces refer to the range and gamut of colors that can be represented or reproduced by a device (RGB for screens, CMYK for printers).
Performing calibration
Calibration refers to the process of adjusting a device to ensure accurate color output. It involves measuring and adjusting various parameters, and must be done regularly to maintain consistency over time.
Using color profiles
A color profile is a digital file describing how a device renders color. Each device used in the printing workflow should have its own profile. ICC profiles are commonly used in color management to ensure consistent color reproduction.
