Having acquired Hong Kong’s first HP Scitex XLJet in 2003, Art King has a history of leading the market. Now, with Caldera driving its arsenal of machines, it is offering higher quality at a lower cost, and gaining customers along the way.
Established in 1997, Art King is one of the leading digital print providers in Hong Kong, specializing in large outdoor advertising. The company employs between 20 and 30 staff. Six years later and it acquired Hong Kong’s first five-metre HP Scitex XLJet and started
providing large-format digital printing services for the outdoor advertising industry. Not long thereafter it introduced eco-friendly production, combining water-based inks and polyester fabrics in order to drive environmental responsibility.
Art King expanded its production network into mainland China in 2010 to meet increasing demand from this region. It soon partnered with China’s largest digital print company, Tunderly Digital Output Shanghai, and through this alliance the company gains clients throughout southeast Asia. Within Art King’s output options are superwide-format banners, billboards, vehicle graphics and soft signage. Moreover, the company is able to produce and supply various digital printing services to outdoor advertising agencies, luxury brands, retail chains and property owners throughout the Asia Pacific region. Recommending and sourcing substrates, color testing, project management and budgeting are only some of the premium services offered.
Art King owns several types of machine – a Durst Rho 500R, HP Scitex LX800 and XL1500 machines, plus DGI and Scorpion printers – and powers them all with Caldera’s GrandRIP+. The company had worked with another RIP before using Caldera, and, since the switch, it has seen a huge improvement in productivity.
“Caldera is a dedicated professional software solution for wideformat printing and it RIPs faster than competitors,” say Art King’s IT department supervisors. They add enthusiastically: “The Caldera RIP improves our production efficiency and reduces production costs, so that we can ensure that clients receive high-quality production at a
competitive price. Thanks to this, we continue to grow our customer base.”
Some of the best-known brands in the world feature in its client list. Cosmetics brand Make Up Forever is amongst them; Art King uses 3M sticker media, back-lit film and vinyl substrates to create its outdoor advertisements, stickers and point-of-sale counters. By combining Caldera’s color management module, EasyMedia, with such highquality materials, Art King knows it can offer clear and smooth prints, ensuring the client can deliver new product information in the best possible way.
The ease of use of the product and this color management capability were important considerations when the company decided to opt for Caldera, as was the Print Standard Verifier option, introduced in Caldera v9.1. Using this tool, the client can measure whether or not a print is compliant with international color standards. “In the future, our company will be able to move in line with Fogra,” state the managers. “And, with Caldera, we know we will excel in color management.”
